How to Bet on Padel: A Beginner’s Guide

What you are actually betting on

Padel is a doubles sport, so every bet is on a pair rather than a player. It is scored almost exactly like tennis, and most bookmakers settle padel under their tennis rules, which is worth knowing before you argue with a settlement.

The circuits you will find priced are Premier Padel and the Cupra FIP Tour beneath it. Coverage is deepest at the Majors and P1 events and thins out quickly below that — the further down the ladder, the fewer books you will find quoting anything at all.

Finding a bookmaker that prices it

Not every sportsbook covers padel, and several that do bury it inside their tennis section rather than giving it a heading of its own. That is the first practical obstacle: the market often exists but is hard to find.

Reading decimal odds

A decimal price is your total return per unit staked, stake included. At 2.50, a €10 bet returns €25 — €15 profit and your €10 back. Anything below 2.00 means the pair is favourite; above it, they are not.

Turn a price into a probability by dividing one by it. 2.50 implies 40%, 1.50 implies 67%. Those are the bookmaker’s numbers, not true probabilities: they always add up to more than 100% across a market, and the excess is the margin.

What the margin costs you

Add the implied probabilities of both sides of a match. If they come to 106%, the book is charging six per cent — that is its cut, taken from every bet whether you win or lose, and padel margins run wider than football or tennis because fewer books compete on the sport.

This is why the fairest-looking odds and the biggest bonus are different questions. A bonus is paid once. A margin is charged on every bet you ever place there.

Compare the price before you place

The same match is priced differently at every book, and taking the best available number is the one edge available to everybody without any skill or opinion at all. On padel the gaps are unusually wide, because thin markets are priced less competitively than deep ones.

Over a single bet it looks trivial. Over a season it is the difference between a small loss and a small profit, and it is entirely free — which is the whole reason an odds comparison exists.

Start with the market you can check

Begin with the match winner. It has two outcomes, every book prices it, and it is the only market where you can see the margin cleanly and compare like for like. Set betting, totals and handicaps are all worth learning, and all carry more margin.

Decide the stake before you look at the price, not after. And keep a record — the honest version of your own results is almost never the remembered one.
